Rearing climatic chambers maintained at 20°C night and 25°C day; photoperiod: 12:11 (day:night) with 30 minute sunset and sunrise periods; Humidity: 80%. For colony maintenance, adults are fed with fresh rabbit blood via a Hemotek feeding system using Parafilm as a membrane. For egg laying, a 9cm Petri dish filled with water is deposited inside the engorged females’ cage. Eggs hatch in sterile pans (22x30cm.) containing 500mL of dechlorinated tap water and ¼ Gayelord Hauser Superlevure tablet. One hundred (100) larvae are reared in sterile pans (22x30cm) containing 500mL of dechlorinated tap water and fed with 0.1gr of fish:turtle food mix (grinded Tetra Goldfish Flakes:Tetra ReptoMin Sticks). Larvae are fed every day with 0.1gr of the abovementioned food mix and water is replaced every 2 days.
