Location: Serbia
Material provided: Physical access for end-users
Unit definition: 1 week of access
Provider country: Serbia (University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Agriculture - FANS)

Collection of insect, animal, human or other ecological samples for studies or surveillance of vectors, WNV or other natural viruses, viromes, disease emergence and epidemics from February to September.

Description

Material provided: Access to field site facilities (with technical support and/or training) and by agreement of provider and user
Unit definition: 1 week of access (several units and combination with other providers are needed for some activities)
Provider country: Serbia (the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Agriculture – FANS)
Short description: Field site access with technical assistance for pilot field trials for evaluating quality of conventional and innovative vector control interventions (mosquitoes, black flies) – from May to September.

Specific service descriptions:

The FANS, Serbia, provides technical assistance for physical access to field sites where a conventional and novel method/device of mosquito sampling and control might be implemented and tested against/in addition to routine vector sampling and control. For quality control of sterile insect technique (SIT), mark release recapture (MRR) and flight capacity testing (FCT) are available. Adults for MRR and FCT should be ordered from a CAA mass-rearing facility (applicant should parallel apply both for using the FANS facility and for required number of mosquitoes to be delivered to FANS).

Services offered:

  • testing the conventional techniques with application timing and intensity intended as required by the external user.
  • testing the relation between different assessment parameters (impact on wild vector population assessed by trapping; impact on confined vector population exposed to the treatment; and treatment parameters, e.g., temperature, humidity, droplet size).
  • testing the novel methods/devices for mosquito sampling and management (e.g., SIT, mass trapping) and prototype method/devices developed by the external user.
  • Latin square comparison of different sampling techniques/traps.
