Short description: Access to field sites and laboratory facilities to understand the dispersal of mosquito vector species (Aedes and Culex genus). All the sites are located in the canton Ticino (Southern Switzerland) at the border with Italy. Different typologies are offered here: wetland (Ramsar site Bolle di Magadino), rural (lowland agricultural field), peri-urban and urban (outlying areas of villages and towns). On top of autochthonous species of mosquitoes (e.g. Ae. vexans, Ae. sticticus, Ae. caspius, Cx. pipiens, An. maculipennis), well-established populations of invasive species (Aedes albopictus, Ae. japonicus, and Ae. koreicus) are present here.

Personalized Training in Arthropod vectors host preference in the field (with technical support and/or training)
Training options offered:
- Field site access with technical assistance and/or practical training for research on ecology and behaviour of mosquito species.
- Identification of suitable sites as resting sites for engorged mosquitoes
- Collection and storage of engorged mosquitoes using appropriate tools (mechanical or mouth aspirator, gravid traps, resting traps, etc…)
- Preparation of samples for blood meal analyses using molecular tools: DNA extraction and amplification using PCR, followed by sequencing.
- Data interpretation and analyses
Please note that for requesters from outside Europe the visa process can take four months or longer, so to be sure to apply well in advance of mosquito season.
